Glacier National Park is nothing short of a hiker’s paradise, flaunting some of the most stunning landscapes in the United States. Among its many breathtaking trails, two of my favorites are Avalanche Lake and Iceberg Lake. Each offers a unique experience, highlighting the park’s incredible natural beauty.
Avalanche Lake: Starting at the Trail of the Cedars, this moderate 5-mile hike winds through a magnificent forest filled with towering cedars. The sound of rushing water from nearby streams provided a soothing backdrop. When you reach Avalanche Lake, you’ll be greeted with crystal-clear waters nestled between towering cliffs. The turquoise water and the surrounding greenery was nothing short of magical.
Iceberg Lake: As someone from Michigan, where we have 62,000 lakes, I have a soft spot for hikes that lead to beautiful bodies of water. For those seeking a more strenuous hike, Iceberg Lake is a rewarding experience. Spanning about 9 miles roundtrip, this trail offers stunning vistas and a bit of a workout. This hike reveals beautiful panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. When you arrive to Iceberg Lake, you’ll be greeted with a mesmerizing sight of a glacier-fed lake surrounded by towering peaks, dotted with floating icebergs. The vibrant blue waters and the rugged backdrop created a picture-perfect scene, making it a great place to rest and appreciate the sheer beauty of nature. I also enjoyed the best post-hike nap of my life here!
